Export/print selection and page numbers
Windows 7
OO 3.4.1
When I export or print a selection, the page numbers are incorrect. What seems to happen is they are all set to the same number, which is sometimes the last page number in the document, but not always.
Is anybody else having this issue and/or know of any workarounds?
Thanks!

If you open your document and select /View /Fieldnames, what fieldname comes up in place of the page number? The same command turns the fieldname back into a value.

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
I've just tried printing pages from a 300+ page work; they printed with correct page numbers. The only thing I noticed was a slight delay while the OpenOffice printing repaginated the document (5-10 seconds). You wouldn't have been rushing it and not allowing time to repaginate?

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
Not sure how I could rush it. I save the document before export/print if I was editing prior. Otherwise, I open, select and export/print.
I've tried it on two different documents and have gotten the same results. I have some novels that I am sending/printing sections of for critique.
I just tried it on another computer with the same OS and OO version. I didn't make any changes so I didn't need to save. I exported the entire document, page numbers were fine. I exported the selection, all page numbers = 35, the max page number from the document.
So I just deleted the page number and re-added it, just in case. Same results.

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
Remember that Print will be printing absolute page numbers, which may not match the document page numbers if there are unnumbered preliminary sheets, or preliminaries with Roman numbering. I am not certain why your page numbers are coming out at 35 (max page count); that was why I asked for the field name. Had it been Statistics, this would be the total page count. Perhaps someone else will have an idea - I've to go off line now for some time.

Absolute would be fine. Certainly better than all the same.
Thanks for trying.

Sorry to muddy the waters, but I'm not sure I understand exactly what it is that you're doing.
Could you describe the exact steps that you're following that leads to the problem?

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
Sure. It's pretty simple actually. Instead of printing or exporting an entire document, I am only doing a selection.
- Open document
- Use mouse to select a section within the document
- Go to either "print" or "export" under the file menu
- On dialog for either, choose "selection" rather than "all"
The result is that the printed/exported section of the document has the same -- incorrect -- page number on every single page that is output. It prints the last page number from the document on each page.
So if there are 35 pages in the document, and I select pages 1 to mid-14 to print, then 14 pages are printed with the page number as "35".
I may have to go with printing a range of page numbers in the dialog rather than a selection. The problem is I would like to start or end in the middle of a page. That way I don't have to change the original document.
What I am doing is selecting around 2,500 words to hand to my critique group. The selections do not always correspond to page breaks.
I hope that makes things clearer.
Thanks

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
Very clear now, thanks.
Weird--I've never, ever tried to do that. I've only ever used the page range filter in the File > Print dialog. I use the "selection" option in OOo Draw a lot, but I never even noticed that it was there with a Writer document as well.
If I follow your "selection" and export to pdf, I get the whole document, not the selection only.
If I print (to file), then I see exactly what you're seeing.
I don't find a bug report for it, although there are several others reporting major problems with printed selections.

Re: Export/print selection and page numbers
If I export the selection to PDF, I see also the same on Ubuntu 12.10 with both AOO 3.4.1 and the dev version AOO350m1(Build:9611) - Rev. 1400866.
Definitively a bug.

OK. Thanks. My sanity is confirmed. (At least in this case.)
Do I need to officially report it? How does one do that?
