S0lved - I have Open Office 3.4.1 [and LibreOffice 3.3].
When I downloaded the latest version of Open Office, it somehow converted all my LibreOffice files to OO but with a very strange litle wavy thingie in the lower right corner of the icon. It also disable the grammar checker I had in Libre Office.
I found the language tool and tried to download it but keep encountering the response "Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader."
A Google search took me to a blog that indicated I needed to uninstall OO and re-install it, but not for "all users" - just for mine. I should then be able to add and enable the extension to OO.
What worries me is that I'm an author and have lots and lots of Word files that I cann't afford to lose.
What do I do?
To be perfectly honest, I've never been that thrilled with the OO extension and always end up converting the files to MSWord to use that grammar checker. But, it's convenient to have it while I type.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader
You may need to tweak your Java settings both on your computer and within LibreOffice (/Tools /Options /OpenOffice.org /Java), possibly downloading and selecting a 32 bit version of Java 6, There are many threads on this subject. By default, automatic Java updates seem to install Java 7, which OpenOffice (possibly LibreOffice also, I don't know) doesn't like very much.

Re: Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader
Well, the Java site won't let me download Java6 - it keeps sending me to the 7 download.
Any suggestions?

Re: Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader
Well, I managed to download Java SE6 and then was able to enable Language Tool 1.9 - BUT it still doesn't show grammar errors.
I give up. Will simply cut and past to a MSWord file and use the grammar checker there!

Re: Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader
Try inserting some double spaces between words. If they show with blue wiggly underline, then Language Tool is working. For detailed grammar checks you may need to write rules for your grammatical errors; also look at /Tools /Language Tool /Configuration for details of some of the inbuilt checks.
Language Tool is not perfect, but it is better than nothing; the best check of all is one's own "inner ear". What grammar check program could handle Ulysses or Finnegans Wake? Even within Jane Austen's works there will be errors indicated, due to change of usage over time.

Re: Unable to Implement Java Implementation Loader
I've downloaded and installed Language Tool 1.9 in AOO 3.4.1 with Java 7, Update 9 (no Java 6 installed). It's working with no Java error.
