Words deleted when typing

I was typing along just fine in Open Office writer and all of a sudden the words started deleting! This is driving me crazy. Please help.... jen

Do you mean that when typing in the middle of text, the existing word to right are overwritten by the new word? Either press your Insert key on keyboard once, or click on Over box on muddle of status bar. Either action should cause this to change to Insert.
