File corruption? What happened?!

Postby hereforgiggles » Mon Oct 18, 2010 2:05 am

I've been working since Thursday on a draft that is due tomorrow. I got lazy and didn't save the file until this morning when I needed to shut my computer off for something. But when I went to reopen the file later, every character in it had been replaced with #################. I can't find any similar cases (although I will admit my Google-Fu is a bit rusty), and the document recovery program I downloaded isn't working either. Does anyone know how to get my paper back? This really sucks.

I'm using Open Office Writer 3.2 on Windows XP. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1520 if that matters at all.

Welcome to this forum hereforgiggles!

Unfortunately, your document seems to be irrecoverable. Try searching your hard disk for a similar file name but with a generic extension (documentname.*).

Hashes? Then the file is lost: see that thread: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.

Have a look at the backup folder (see [Tutorial] The OOo user profile).
