Corrupt odt file

My daughter is running Linux Mint 9 and using OpenOffice 3.2. She let her battery die while having an odt file open. The file is now corrupt. Can't open it in zip and putting the file on my windows system to use a file repair program doesn't work. Does anyone know of an odt file repair program that can install on a Linux Operating system?

I'm afraid that it sounds as though the file is dead. (To be honest, I've never heard of a so-called file-fix program that has ever worked.)

you could try to attach the file here and let us take a look at it, but as Isay, it doesn't sound hopeful: [Forum] How to attach a document here.

Another thing to try is to check her user profile backup folder - there might be a previous version auto-saved in there. See: [Tutorial] The OOo user profile.

Now it is too late, but it may be useful for the future:
Always make a backup copy of important documents. (While you are editing, too; for example: MyImportantDocument001, MyImportantDocument002 ... etc.)

Yeah, the auto-save folder is empty. Don't understand why it would be empty, because she said that every 15 min she could tell it was doing an auto save and I looked at the settings and everything is got a check mark where it should for it to do the auto save.

OK, here's the file, but I think it's pretty much empty. I opened it up in a file editor and I don't see hardly anything there. I think most of it is probably scattered throughout her hard drive.

Yes, it is dead, I'm afraid. All of the bytes in it are hex 0x00 - completely null and void.

The only safe thing to do with any office suite is to save often, and save in different locations/folder with different names like version001, version002, version003 ... etc.
You have to think defensively with computers.
