Restore a file that was saved over?
I spent 3 hours last night creating my resume from a template (which I now can not find anywhere...) and then today I opened it to create one for my boyfriend and when I saved it I accidentally saved it over mine and closed it. Is there any way at all to get it back? Temporary files (even part of it is better then nothing at all...)or some sort of restore or anything? Or am I stuck starting over?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Check the backup folder of the profile. If nothing inside, no way I fear. [Tutorial] The OOo user profile.
Good luck!

I did not choose the option to create backups so no... but thanks anyways. I at least know how not to have it happen again in the future! Thanks for the info

Re: Restore a file that was saved over?
Wait: have you closed OOo since? If not, just try to undo as much as possible.

As soon as may be, try the methods outlined in this

There is no guarantee that you will recover anything usable, but try.

Also have a look at your profile, you may have a backup (see [Tutorial] The OpenOffice user profile).

Also, consider installing and using the Time stamped backup extension to keep multiple backups of your files.

Re: Restore a file that was saved over?
You can go to Windows Explorer, right click on your file and select "Restore Previous Versions". This will open a pop up window that shows all previous versions and when they were saved. Select a version from before it was overwritten, and windows will revert it to that version.

Re: Restore a file that was saved over?
When working on important documents it helps to keep a backup on usb, email, cloud or the hard drive. It is easy to lose data in a document, and not realise it has gone until later, that is when it pays to have a backup. Generally files that are overwritten cannot be recovered.

Re: Restore a file that was saved over?
There is also File > Versions ..., which keeps previous versions in the .odt file. The file grows in size and you have to delete older, unwanted versions.
