Problem with file

Postby crazystargrl » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:10 am

I wrote a paper for class and my computer crashed. When I tried to open it, it said the recovery of the file failed. It's never done that before. When I open the file, it just looks like a bunch "######" number signs. Is it possible to save it?

I appreciate any help. My paper is due tomorrow so I'd hate to have to write it again.

Doesn't look good. Do a File Search for Myfile.bak, where Myfile is the name of your paper.

Edit: if you don't find it, get writing again.

Edit2: definitely nothing in your file as far as my tools show.

Sorry, I think your file is dead: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs. I hope you had a backup (see [Tutorial] The OOo user profile).

NB: that's the 3rd thread about that in 3 days
Are you using 3.1.0 or 3.1.1? What kind of crash have you experienced? power loss? application freeze?...
