Batch conversion of DOC/ODF to PDF

Postby sspadmin » Fri Jul 10, 2009 8:42 am

I am using OO 3.0.1 writer to create/edit documents.

I have 100+ odt files and DOC files which I need to convert into PDF.

Opening in Writer and exporting to PDF , individually is not a good option.

Is there any way by which I can do this job in Batch Mode? Can I use OpenOffice to do this or I have to rely on 3rd part converters for batch processing?

You can use OOo, check OOo Ninja blog.

Example written with OOo 2.4 version, not to forget, from OOo 3.x developers changed OOo directory structure, and Python can be found in folder on win:
Code: Select all   Expand viewCollapse view
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\Basis\program\
, and soffice under
Code: Select all   Expand viewCollapse view
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\program\
,
AOO 4.0 and LibO 4 on Win 8

Try http://www.zamzar.com. They may charge for this many files though.

If you just want to generate PDF files, you don't need a Python script, a Basic macro, Java code, or any other kind of programming. Just install a PDF printer such as PDFCreator (Windows) or CUPS-PDF. Then, use the -pt command with the the first argument as the printer name and the second argument as the source document.

Linux:
openoffice.org2.4 -norestore -nofirststartwizard -nologo -headless -pt Cups-PDF sample.ppt

Windows:
"C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org2.4\program\soffice" -norestore -nofirststartwizard -nologo -headless -pt PDFCreator sample.ppt

Thanks to bikram for this tip.
