mailmerge to email problem

When sending mailmerge output as email, there doesn't appear to be anyway to log the results. I need a history of successful emailing as an audit trail. Is there a way to get this in Open Office? Alternatively, is there a way to set Writer to use Thunderbird or Outlook Express as the means for emailing the mailmerge output?

What exactly do you need a log of?

Doesn't OOo notify you if sending fails?
