Sorry to ask such a weak question, but I've just started using Writer 2.4 and am wondering...

In Tools>Autocorrect>Options, what does "[M] Replace while modifying existing text" mean, and how does it work?
I understand "[T] Autoformat/Autocorrect while typing", though.

Been racking my simple brain for the last hour for an answer...

There is an option to manually apply corrections on the Format, Autoformat submenu. This only works for the Default Paragraph style, but it is sometimes a convenient way to apply Smart Quotes to imported text.
