Hey all, I'm working on typing up a resume and would like to get a stylized horizontal rule in a few areas. I've noticed that there are two methods--which I'm aware of--to accomplish this task. There's Insert > Horizontal Ruler or by applying a bottom border to the a paragraph.
From what it appears, the "Horizontal Ruler" is just an image inserted in the text. In my opinion, they look more like something that would be on a really bad web page. There is not that many choices in this arena, there's only like 5 different variations.
The other method, bottom borders, seems more of a "hack". There are more options with this method for style (single-line, double-line, ability to adjust line thickness).
I'm wondering which is the more appropriate method. Is there a good websites with professional looking horizontal lines which I could import? Or, is it better to make due with the bottom border of a paragraph?

It is all just views and opinions. Use whichever method you prefer or design your own graphic ruler.

Actually, the "plain" style of Insert > Horizontal Line also just inserts a tiny paragraph with a border on it.
You can also simply insert a graphic--either a line, or a thin, filled rectangle. You can get some very effective accents using a rectangle filled with a gradient so it appears to fade out. Obviously, you have to be careful not to go overboard, or it will end up looking cheesy.
You also have to be careful about what format you want to "publish" the resume in. OOo Writer is fine for paper or PDF, but I would be wary of using it for a web page (html output), or for exporting to .doc (which is what most places will want). Both of those formats can give you nasty surprises where the result doesn't look like it did in Writer. If those formats are important, then you may have to adjust what Writer features you use, including what kind of horizontal lines you include.
