[Solved] Hanging today when saving any doc format.

Post by apatchy »

Hi all, another forum newbie here, longtime Office user, but stumped with a problem today.
A document window became unresponsive when trying to save an updated doc file today. Same problem with saving any odt file to any doc format.
Uninstalled Office and installed latest version. Problem remains.

Welcome to the Forums
Unless one or more of the people that you are sending the file to are using MSOffice 95 or earlier, there is no need to save in .doc format.
MSOffice after 95 will open .odt formatted file.
If you need it in .doc format, for whatever reason, you could try resetting the User Profile as described here
This link is for the version of Windows in your signature.
If that still doesn't work, you could use Zamzar to convert the file.
OpenOffice 4.1.7, LibreOffice 7.0.1.2 on Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate & Windows 10 Home (2004)

Fantastic. Resetting the user profile fixed it. Some editors want doc format so the function is handy. Thanks!

Note: There is not (never was and never will be) 100% compatibility betveen the file formats.

You will lose some formatting properties (or even some contents) when you save/convert your important documents into foreign (and obsolete) file fomats.
Store your important documents in the international standard ODF file formats - if you want work with the AOO or LO efficiently and safely.
