It works for me in Draw. What exactly are you doing and what is happening?

I had a document on word that I copied and paste in OpenOffice and I need to flip or mirror the text so I can transfer the text onto a piece of wood

Is it a graphical object with a textual label or is it some (pure) formatted text?
