Disable AutoFormating difficulty

I have read the instructions and it directs me that there are two ways to disable AutoFormating

Neither work for me

In my documents I need use the character **************** quite a bit
AutoFormating ALWAYS converts to a double solid line

How on earth can I stop this one function ????

/Tools /Autocorrect options : Options tab. Uncheck "Apply border".
