Writer constantly crashes unexpectedly

This problem has been plaguing Open Office since the early versions. Why does this program constantly crash unexpectedly? It does not matter if it is Windows 7, windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I'll be typing up a document hit save and then it won't save. I try to move something and it leaves a trail of the object, then I'm told OpenOffice crashed unexpectedly. This is infuriating and simply hasn't been sorted out. Sometimes I just finished a whole lot of work, and before I can save it the program just closes and told me it crashed. the autosave hasn't saved any of the progress before the crash

Were the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 all on your computer(s)? If so, what anti-virus and firewall do you use?

Start your current computer in Safe Mode, does OpenOffice run stable in that Windows mode?

1. Reboot.
2. Strange problems are often fixed by resetting the profile - search for the tutorial. A re-install does not replace the profile.
3. Try LibreOffice instead of AOO.

I also had this problem. I think it may be tied to having a table in my document. As soon as a cut and pasted the content (without formatting) into a new document without a table, all has been fine. Document is stable, I can save my work, and OO doesn't continuously crash! (I'm using columns with page breaks to get the formatting I need. This is a bit of a pain, but works!)

Before this I looked for instructions or a tutorial to change my profile, but they all were either incomplete or the instructions and screen shots were not matching what I was seeing on my computer - running Win10.

Quite weird, the tutorial ([Tutorial] The OpenOffice User Profile) contains all information for Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac. There is even a link to another tutorial dedicated to Windows 10 with screenshots.
Please tell what is incomplete or not matching.

Note that large (multipage) tables have been known to cause problems in OpenOffice Writer. If these are required, it may be better to break the table into multiple single page tables, at the cost of hand steering your data.

Separate computers and each one did exactly the same, I use Mcafee Antivirus.

My computer came out last year, it is super fast, 32 gb Ram, 4 Gb video ram, core i-7 10th gen, no problems with speeding things up. Usually before Open Office crashes if I am working with images then it will do this regardless of computer type and it has happened on windows 7, 8.1 and 10

As already mentioned, try LibreOffice.
At least a portable version, just to check if it better suits your needs.

I just want the problem fixed. I've found the problem often happens because of a 'bad allocation'. That is an office problem which needs fixing

How big/what format are your images?

One (albeit old) reply to a general search for bad allocation also suggests try Linux, which is another alternative if LibreOffice is no better on Windows.

Not interested in Linux, I'm only interested in what I am using now and this problem has persisted across computers, windows systems and versions of this program, clearly it has never been fixed and it makes me angry

We have provided several advices, including trying LibreOffice.
You're barking the wrong tree here. We are users like you, period.
If you want to contact the developers, then use the mailing list, it's the only channel they recognize (together with bugzilla but your issue is not reproducible, thus can't be accepted as a bug report).
