doc files now show as pdf

i do have the current version of OpenOffice and a couple of weeks ago all of the doc files on my computer turned to pdf and now I cannot open these pdf files, I have deleted OO and reinstalled it, each pdf file is displayed by the logo for OO, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try the LibreOffice.

(or try to assign the fyle types to the Apache OpenOffice manually.)

The file association may have been changed, see: [Tutorial] Setting the default program to open files.
But it's not clear if your doc files show as PDF (first part of your post) or if the PDF are associated to AOO (last part of your post)!
Make sure your file explorer does show the extension (folder display settings). It is a basic security measure and allows you to check that the icon/file association is correct.
