Endnotes keep getting converted to footnotes
I have a 10 page paper that uses endnotes, so they should al be at the end of the document on the last page. I use INSERT -> Endnote to insert them, and at the time they show up in the correct place, at the end of the file. But after I save the file and re-open it, they are converted to footnotes and appear on the page where the note is. I even went into the footnotes tab and said put them at the end of the document, and it does, until I close it and re-open it. How can i fix this? I will upload a screenshot of how it should be (all ten at the end of the document, and then what it changes to).

That is the cause of your problem; Save in .odt format.

If I do .docx it puts them on their own age at the end, so that is better. The last page of text is short, any way to move them up to that page?

The school MS Word will read .odt formats., but probably their IT department don't wish to know that.
MS .doc and .docx are proprietary formats and shouldn't be insisted upon by any pubic body.

Re: Endnotes keep getting converted to footnotes
In addition, .doc is really deprecated by now, even for MS Office users. The current MS Office "standard" is now .docx.

Don't forget that if you use sections, endnotes appear at the end of sections.
Did you ignore, or worse, disable, the warning message AOO gives you when you save as a .doc file?
See [Tutorial] Differences between Microsoft and AOO/LO files for a description of differences and for why you should always work in, and save Writer files as .odt, Calc files as .ods, Impress files as .odp, etc. It explains:
LO has better, but not complete, compatibility with MS Word formats and can save .docx files.

If someone irrationally asks you to send them a .doc file, question the request, and offer to send them a .odt file instead as all versions of Microsoft Office later than 2007 claim to be able both to read and to write .odt files ... If the requester insists on a .doc file, then create a .doc file as a copy of the master .odt file, and delete the .doc after sending it so you don't start editing it by mistake in future.
They are staggering ignorant and arrogant. .doc files have been obsolete since 2007.ostrogotha wrote:it has to be doc, or maybe docx

Re: Endnotes keep getting converted to footnotes
@John_Ha: I always forget about use of Sections n such a case.
Select your text, /Insert /Section, and choose to have endnotes at End of Section; that should do the job. Otherwise. try LibreOffice, which has better .docx support (not perfect, probably).
