[Solved] Construct multi-page folded booklet

Post by eadt »

I am having to switch from QuarkExpress to OpenOffice. My task is to construct a multi page folded booklet, 7-1/4 x 4-1/4.

I am new to OpenOffice and am having trouble figuring out:

how to make/use text boxes

how to connect text boxes

how to set tabs

justify left and then right using tabs

can you change leading incrementally, and how

Obviously, I need a lot of help, but if you can direct me I would appreciate it.

This document may be informative:
Writer for students (several languages)

On /File /Print : Pages Layout tab, there is a setting to print a brochure. It is easy to print a sheet folded brochure in OpenOffice, i.e., a sheet folded in two, containing four pages; a sheet containing eight pages, where it is folded in the centre, then cross folded, is effectively impossible in OpenOffice.

Insert Menu/Frame

Under the Frame Properties / Options tab you can link them.

Instead of using tabs use paragraph indents.

Format menu/paragraph/Indents & Spacing tab/ Line spacing combo/leading

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date AOO Writer for Students and the Writer User Guide. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.
