[Solved] Numbering and bullets

Post by DOSman »

I'm writing a report and wish to have bullets in a numbered point, with the numbering resuming. Instead, the number after the last bullet continues as if the bullets are numbers, like this:
15 The following are advised.
* Creating a new way;
* Seeking opportunities; and
* Increasing return on investment.

19 Management needs to address ...

I had to make the bullets asterisks for this post. Advice about how to automatically have point 19 made to be the next number after 15 or whatever it is would be valued. Thank you.

Please upload a sample document. What you've posted looks like three separate lists with the first list ending at 15, the second list with bullets and the third list set to start at 19, but that's just a guess.

First, the numbering in the list had been set to start at "5" and the "Restart numbering" option had been applied to force the list to start at "1". I changed the setting to start at "1" and turned off the "Restart numbering" option from the first item in the list. That did not fix the numbering after the bullet items, so I selected the bullet items, turned off the bullets, then re-applied the List 1 list style. That did fix the numbers.

Bill, thanks.

I found a way to create the bullets.
Make the numbering in the required format.
When the bullets are required, continue the numbering, then start the next number.
Select the bullet lines and tab. They will then be indented.
Select one bullet line and edit to the required format. In my case this was having the bullets line up on the left edge of the numbered text, with the bullet text tabbed a further 10 mm.
Continue with the numbering.

This was not obvious.
