[Solved] Unwanted display of Properties in Writer

Post by Frank Jay »

In Writer version 4.1.3 on Windows 10.
Each time I open a simple text document a panel appears on the right showing the properties.
This disrupts displaying a few texts on screen at the same time.
How do I avoid that panel showing?
I logged into Forum.OpenOffice.org.
Worked down through menu tools writer ..
Found a mention of displaying properties when saving but not my situation.
My apology for asking such a simple question but what I'm doing is that simple.
Far below the capabilities of this package.
Multimate which I used in the 80's would suffice for me.

Thanks Rob. That did the job.
BUTTTT.
Who could possibly have dreamed up the idea that a user turns display of the properties on and off by clicking
on those 3 nearly invisible dots, at least to an Octogenarian???
If I lived to be 99 I must might have discovered it by the pure stumble and fumble method.
Further, I've opened a few more and it seems that the defaul has been set back to do not display. Yeah\

Please see this question and the solution; whilst the linked question is about Calc, the solution is the same when using Writer.

Just as a matter of interest, you can still get Multimate from https://winworldpc.com/product/multimate/40 Reminds me of writing printer drivers for Multimate for various printers back in the day; mostly dot matrix but a few laser printers as well. This of course before the advent of ink jet printers.

As you are using Windows, you might find Wordpad to be more suitable for your needs.
