Pictures taken in Portrait orientation turn upon import

Post by joyf »

When I try to import a picture taken in portrait orientation into a document, it loads in landscape orientation. I can't find a tool to turn it back to portrait.
Can anyone tell me how to either:
1. Have the picture import properly, or
2. Turn the picture from landscape to portrait once it is in my document.
The picture is 367 kb and 1265 X1580 jpg
Landscape-oriented photos import correctly.
Windows 10
Open Office 4.1.3

Thanks

You don't mention which OpenOffice module you are using; I'll guess you are using Writer. If so, see if Unwanted picture rotation is helpful.

Digital cameras save all photo files in landscape mode and include an orientation tag that tells other apps how to rotate the photo when it is displayed. OpenOffice does not support the orientation tag so it does not rotate any photos from landscape to portrait. You could try LibreOffice which does support the orientation tag or use an image editor to rotate the photos if you want to continue using OpenOffice.

Thank you for your reply. I am using Writer.
My photos all appear in the correct orientation in my viewer. It is only those photos taken in portrait orientation that are turned to landscape orientation when they import into my document.

As you have been told earlier in the thread, you must edit them in an image editor and turn them to Portrait before you import them.

That's because your viewer uses the orientation tag to rotate the image from landscape to portrait.

No, they aren't turned to landscape in your document. They are already landscape. Your viewer turns them to Portrait. OpenOffice does not.
