[Solved] Unwanted change of font

Post by Wr1nk1nek »

:bravo: :super: I'm writing a letter and the bloody thing changes the font, style and size.
Is there a way to stop this? It is a real pain as well as a waste of time to change the font back several times per letter

Thanks to some good help; I'm happy again

How do you "change the font back"? If you want to use a specific font, you should set that font in the Default paragraph style and not use the setting on the Toolbar.

I have set default font in format. It don't matter when, where or how I set the font I want; the program changes font and size, sometimes six times before I can write a letter.

Set the same font in Defaut and in Text Body, using /Format Styles and Formatting.

If you have Tools > AutoCorrect Options > Options > Apply Styles checked, the Default paragraph style will change to the Text body paragraph style when you press Enter at the end of a paragraph. If you type a line of text that doesn't end in a punctuation mark and press Enter twice, the paragraph style will change to a heading style.

Are you saving in native ODF (.odt)?
Saving in as raw text like .txt can't keep any formatting. Thus any change of font will be lost and the default font will apply each time you open the file.

I save everything in .doc but my problem is while I am working on a letter: the program changes font style and size. sometimes once; sometimes six times per letter.
sometimes to a font that I've never seen or heard of.

Have you tried what both Bill and I have already suggested? We cannot fix your computer by remote control - you have to do something and we both have made the same suggestion, which we think may cure _your_ problem.

I have done as you said. Waiting for time to get into letter writing to see if it works.

What you're describing doesn't happen spontaneously. Please make time to compose a sample letter and upload it to the forum and tell us where the unwanted font change happens.

If you select all and hit Ctrl+M, does it still gives erratic font change?
I can't see anything causing such behavior.
Can you provide screenshots of what it looks like when there is a change occurring?

I got a few lines typed and it seems to be OK. Hopefully the cures from you have worked. It only changed once, when I pasted from my multi clipboard.
I don't like that but I can live with it.

Thanks guys, for your help and patience with an ignorant ol red neck.

I suspect he pasted in some, say, Courier 14 bold which had a following empty paragraph. He reset all bar the final empty paragraph to, say, TNR 11.

Every time he goes to the empty paragraph and types something it appears as Courier 14 bold.

If you don't have View > Non printing characters..., set to ON you have no warning. When ON you see an appropriately formatted pilcrow warning you.

If you paste something, then paste as unformatted text (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+V) or Paste special. Else, it will carry the source formatting and is likely to be the issue.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.
