[Issue] Last cursor position lost (from LO 7.1)

Post by Hagar Delest »

I've a strange issue.
I upgraded to LO 7.1 (portable) on my Windows 10 machine and when I save documents that were in ODF 1.2 in the new flavor 1.3, sometimes they do not remember the last cursor position.
I've not found any pattern. Short documents seems to remember the position (500ko).
I tried to find where is stored that information but no luck so far.

They do open at the correct position (when still in 1.2). Then after the save operation, it reopens at the beginning.
Profile was the same so no change in the user data. I'm in Normal view (not web layout).
I can't share any of those documents. Has someone seen such issue?
Thanks.

Can you check, just in case, that your User details are in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice /User Data. and that there is only one OO User profile. I'm thinking two user profiles on different paths.

I checked that already.

Eventually, it's a bug in LO 7.1 I think. Another one is that the toggle view in the Navigator for master document is not displayed at all!

I installed 7.0.4 instead (still portable on my Windows 10 machine) and it works fine.
Well, I've been too much optimistic. Never install the latest version of LO ("Fresh Branch")! Stick to the "Still Branch".

For the record, it is a regression in LibreOffice 7.1: Bug 140147 - position of cursor not saved.
I'm rather disappointed by the "fix" and the explanation (I think my comments are pretty clear about that...).

A workaround which might not occur to many Users is, before exiting a document, to insert a Comment/Annotation at the current location, and use Navigator to go to that comment.

You could have macros that insert something like a zero width space (wouldn't otherwise affect the document) and then finds it and removes it when you reopen the document.

Possibly could be run automatically on the 'document is going to be closed' and 'document open' events.

(I wrote a macro to create a string representation of the selection so it can be stored a while back.

Its probably not a good idea to use that as if you inadvertently press any key your selection gets deleted)

Thanks for the hints. However, this is a great feature IMHO (you discover that only when it's missing!) and I hope that the devs will acknowledge that something has to be done. It used to work fine before 7.1 so let's revert to the previous state.

Yeah, it seems an odd choice... sticking with or reverting to the earlier version is an obvious option.
