[Solved] Header glitch: letters jump all over the place

Post by Toahanger »

Hi, I'm working on a songbook. Each song has a different title, so I have lots of titles. Sometimes the header gliches and the songtitle's words and letters jump all over the place. It's only with certain letters so if I misspell the titles the header stays In one place. Oubviously I'd like all songtitles to be correct. I use header 2 for the songtitles.

It's very weird.

Can you please upload a short sample file (not a picture) which has the problem. The Upload tab is below Submit button on PostReply and FullEditor screens.

Hi, the strange thing is that the problem disapears whan I copie a page with the problem to a blank document. It's realy very random. I'd like to upload the document but the file is to big. Maybe the problem is caused by to man titles (100+ songs)?

I just discovered that it's a problem with the Italics. When I switch it of, the lettres stay in one place.

1. Save As ..., and save a copy of the file as test.odt.
2. Open test.odt and delete all but three or four pages, leaving pages showing the problem
3. Upload the test.odt file so that it can be analysed.

Press POSTREPLY and click the Upload attachment tab below where you type (128 kB max); or use a file share site, Dropbox or Google Drive for a larger file.

I probably overloaded some system somehow, it seems to be resolved by switching of the italics. Thanks anyway.

It may be a mere display issue.
Perhaps the print preview would help. Or at least a PDF export.
I've tagged your topic as solved.

Switching off italics may fix the symptoms but does nothing to address the cause.

I suspect you are using Tabs for spacing and perhaps to force new lines which is very bad practice. The lines and the text then jump all over the place because italics are different widths to non-italics. A line spill will mess up every line below it. Similarly, changing the font size as below, where I copied the 12 point lines and set the font to 14 point, will mess up the layout.

But, without the file, we will never know for certain.
