[Solved] Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
Hello,
I tried to save my writing file as usual, but it corrupted - couldn't save nor retrieve. It says "Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file." I am using OpenOffice 4.1.5 on Window 10. Any suggestion to recover?
Thanks.
Rich

Re: Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
ps I am using OpenOffice 4.1.5 on window 10. I usually save it as "Microsoft word 97/2000/XP (doc.)" instead of (.odt)

A forum search for Winword97 file finds a number of topics which may have some additional suggestions for you.

Re: Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
I've managed to extract some text from your doc file which may be of help to you - see the attached file.
I strongly suggest that you use the native Open Document Format file types - .odt in this case - when saving your files; if you absolutely need to provide them in another format use Save As to create a new version in the required format. You would probably be better off to use a later version of MS Word format if the recipient needs to alter the document, otherwise a PDF file might be more appropriate.
Note that MS Office from 2007 claims to handle files in ODF format.

Re: Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
Always work in the native, international standsard ODF file formats. At the end of the editing you can make (export or save as...) some copy into the foreign, obsolete, never standardized file formats.
But always open to re-edit the original native fileformat file.
You always will lost some famtting properties (or even some contents!) when you work in foreign file formats, because there is not (never was and never will be) 100% compatibility between the different file formats.

About 2/3 recovered, saving a lot of my time. They are not what I saved last time - corrupted - don't know why - my first time to meet this trouble.
Take good care.

Re: Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
Do you want the uploaded files removed for confidentiality? And please note my advice in the second paragraph.
Cheers

Re: [Solved] Read-Error. This is not a WindWord6 file
There was no further text in the file; what you see was all that I could extract from the file.Would be possible to extract the remaining 1/3?
Not sure what you mean by this; I was asking about removing the files by deleting the attachments from our various posts above.Could you please remove it in your email?
Edit: I see you have removed the files from your posts so I have deleted from mine. |
Cheers
