Format error in sub-document content.xml - urgent file lost

Post by dgenti »

I'm a journalist and recently completed a big project for work, and when I went to attach the .odt file to an email, I found that it had been corrupted.

On attempting to open the file, I've received the following error:

"Format error discovered in the file in sub-document content.xml at 2,2825(row,col)."

From browsing some other posts, it appears that a few other users have had this same problem (https://forum-test.openoffice.org/en/fo ... 6&t=101675) and the error has to do with a bug related to track changes and commenting (https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=128356).

This is a real Hail Mary, and as a newcomer to the forum I feel a bit out of place asking for help, but I thought it would be worth a shot posting the file here to see if anyone here would be able to repair the file for me. There's no sensitive information on it, aside 4000 words about the largest VHS collection in the country, so I figured it couldn't hurt to post in case a generous soul could help a desperate freelance writer on-deadline to recover it. I'd be forever in your debt, thanks for reading.

Moved to Writer forum as this is not a problem restricted to Mac, but a Writer issue..

This is a bug in AOO.

As LibreOffice does not have this problem I suggest you move to LO.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
