[Solved] Error discovered in sub-document content.xml

Post by mcolivet »

Hi to the good samaritans here,
After hours of work, I had just finished reviewing an article (text with lots of track changes and comments) and Openoffice suddenly crashed. When I tried to re-open the file It says:
"Read Error. Format error is discovered in the file in sub-document content.xml at 2.6070 (row, col)." on my Apache 4.1.7.

I have tried to understand the problem and how to fix it, but it's simply beyond my reach.

Can anyone on here help me? It would be highly appreciated. Attached the file that is corrupted.

Many thanks!!

I can't thank you enough!!!! Amazing it took you 5' after I spent nearly 3 hours trying to solve it.
It would be really helpful to know: 1) how can I avoid that this happens again? and 2) if it would ever happen again, is there a simple way for me to fix it, or should I just post another cry for help here?
I really really appreciate it!

There are complicated reasons for it happening, mostly to do with tracking changes and deletion of comments on text ranges. John_Ha has written about the cause, somewhere on the Forum; I have many other things to concern me, so read but didn't note the detail of his posting; as I _never_ use track changes or apply comments to text ranges, the problem doesn't arise for me.

The topic RoryOF is referring to is almost certainly this one.

As a further precaution, you might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension, which will allow you to make multiple, timestamped backups of your document. Note that this must be invoked separately from your normal Save.
