Language is not showing after save in DOC format
Hello,
I use to write in my language , Farsi, and save the documents.
Last time when I opened one of my documents, Openoffice writer asked me something about the language.
And I did not read it carefully to understand it.
As I remember it was something to define the language of my document. I am not sure.
Now when I open my doc it is not showing my language, it is showing some strange character.
Can anybody help me solve this challenge?
regards

Hi and welcome to the forum!

- font installed: I am not sure, how can I check? I do remember that I could write and edit. Dose it mean that the language is installed?
- File format: doc. Please, look at the picture attached
- I'll add the sample doc.

Re: Language is not showing
If other documents display fine and the font was the same, then it's not the font (anyway, I doubt it really is).
The document has been corrupted I would say, perhaps because it was saved in .doc.
If you use AOO, then stick to the native ODF format (.odt).
If you need to exchange the file with other users in .doc, then either buy MS Office or try LibreOffice.

Re: Language is not showing
The document you presented seems to be of a very old format of MS Word 6.0-95. This format has never been supported well in Apache OpenOffice and is not supported in LibreOffice anymore, which means that you, most probably, have lost your work.
Lesson to learn: never work in a foreign file format. Use ODF and only after you finish your work export to something else.

At very least, work in .odt format, and if you must send to others, either /File /Export as PDF and send that, or, your editing finished, /File /Save As and select .doc Word 97/2000 format.Hagar Delest wrote: If you use AOO, then stick to the native ODF format (.odt).

It looks to me as if the required font was not installed on your computer, but its apparent absence might be due to the file being Saved in .doc format.

Re: Language is not showing
I saved the file as plain text in cp-1252, then opened it as cp-1256. Here’s what I managed to recover (Google Translate translates it into more or less comprehensible English, so, probably the conversion went well).
And once again:
