[Solved] Vertical writing settings for East Asian languages

Shalom,
I intend to write vertical, as I in times need to create documents in the Japanese tongue. How do I do this?
To be specific I need to write from the top to the bottom (vertical), starting from the right column all the way
up to the left column (right to left).
Any advice is greatly appreciated

I am using openoffice 4.1.7-1 on linux and a drop-down menu called Text direction is not available.

You must check-in the "Show UI elements for East Asian writings" option first in the Languages menu of the Tools - Options - Language tools.
