Post by soulstorm »

Hi everybody,

Here's the thing, I used this ⚔ symbol for a while to break pieces of text in the following way:

It worked fine 'till I had to format my computer, I reinstalled writer and I got this:

Any idea how to display the symbol properly again?
Thanks for your help =)

The lookout a character depend on the installed fonts. If the applied font is not installed on your machine, the font will be substitute automatically with an another (existing) font.

I suggest you to install the extension named TestFonts: it can list the names of the missing fonts in a document; the existing fonts; the usage of the fonts (by direct formatting or by styles).
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/testfonts

The installer of the LibreOffice contains a lot of free fonts. You can dowbload these fonts separately from the site of the Portable apps:

Similarly, AOO uses Symbol font for bullets (it could quite easily use Times New Roman) and it gives rise to lots of forum questions.

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

Select the symbol in a document, then select Format > Character. On the Character dialog, click the Font tab. This will show the font that is specified for the symbol. If the font is not installed, there will be a note on the dialog below the Language box and you will have to install the font to get the correct symbol.

It looks like Unicode character U+2694 in DejaVu Sans.
