[Solved] Importing math equations from word using PanWriter

Post by mrousl »

I am using PanWriter to export to .odt from .docx.
Everything works fine. But when math equations contain complex fractions the numerators and denominators are not translated correctly by the writer. When i open the .odt file produced by the PanWriter with word they are translated correctly but when i open it in writer everything goes on the numerator of the complex fraction except the denominator of the fraction located in the denominator of the original complex fraction which in writer is the sole object of the denominator of the complex fraction. e.g. in latex $$\frac{\frac{1}{2}}{\frac{3}{4}}$$ is translated by windows correctly when opening the .odt file but in writer is translated wrong as 1 over 2 over 3 over 4. The correct translation must be {1 over 2} over {3 over 4}

Thanks Villeroy! I am using libreoffice to convert to .odt. And then openoffice to use odt to braiile. It works!! odt to braille sometimes crashes to libreoffice. Maybe time for an update?

Apologies if I seem to be being picky, but in your original post you stated that you were using PanWriter to go from .docx to .odt, but in your reply to Villeroy, you stated that you are using LibreOffice to convert to .odt
Thus, in two posts, you have stated that you are using two different programs to generate the .odt file. Now I understand that you might be using both at different times, but in order to figure out what is going on that caused you to post in the first place, it can make a difference as to what program you are using to generate the .odt file.

As to updating LibreOffice, I can't specify as to whether this would be a good idea or not, as I have no information regarding the version of LibreOffice you currently have.

I was using PanWriter to go from .docx to .odt. But after Villeroy suggestion i used libreoffice latest edition. And libreoffice can handle fine equations of .docx made by the builtin equation editor. The problem is that i want to use odt to braille. And odt to braille crashes at Libreoffice. So i use the odt file generated by Libreoffice with Openoffice 4.1.7 in order to use odt to braille. Thanks for your replies!
