[Solved] How to make multiple anchors to a single endnote?

Postby BlairSF » Thu Apr 30, 2020 3:09 am

Hi,

I'm trying to figure this out... I have a document with 3 or 4 endnotes. However, I would like to place multiple anchors within the document, potentially as many as 20 references to the same endnote. When I try to insert the second anchor for endnote 1 again, it creates a new endnote instead of referencing the existing endnote 1.

Is this possible?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've realize now that this is not the proper usage for endnotes. I looked into the bibliography tool, and it doesn't seem to work well. I think I'm going to simply use internal hyperlinks to accomplish what I need to do.

See How to reference endnotes more than once? for further information.

Click on insert menu/cross-reference

In the 'Type' listbox-select endnote and select the endnote you want

In the'Insert Reference to' listbox-select Reference

You can format the field's text to superscript if you wish.

I will also assume that the footnote references are internal links. This by default makes them look different from normal text on screen. This may involve underlining. It’s debatable whether this is useful on screen, but on print, it’s normally pointless and even disturbing.

If you wanted something that returned to the right anchor when clicked then macro fields that point to and from your own endnote-like textsection could be used - see attached document.

You need to get a decent bibliographic system manager. From my brief and painful experience with the OOo bibliography tool years ago it seems possible to do things but it has a hellish interface and should have been drowned at birth.

See 9 Free Open-source Citation and Reference managers for Windows, Linux, and macOS for some suggestions. I, personally would recommend Zotero.
