Welcome to the forums.
You might start by reviewing [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images. Note that OpenOffice is not a clone of MS Office and you shouldn't expect things to be exactly the same between the two office suites.

Never paste formatted text and/or pictures from a foreign source into a writer document directly.
For the textual content use the Paste Special - As unformatted text.
Save (download) the pictures first onto your storage device, optimize them with a third party imaga manager software, then use the regular inserting method. Never use the .bmp file format. Use the .png, .gif or the .jpg file formats for the embedded pictures.

Re: Copy pictures and text from web page
hi many thanks to all who have answered it looks like i will have to migrate back to old office xp as the way open office deals with things is too slow and time consuming just to do some reference web page info on the fly as sometimes ill have over 10 pics to collate then re input back to open office as individual pics such a shame as i like open office but regrettably not what i need thanks again

Re: [SOLVED]Copy pictures and text from web page
You must do as you want but it seems to me that you are completely misunderstanding what is happening.
Different web pages code material differently so while two pages might appear identical to look at they will behave very differently when you copy them. You cannot tell by looking how they will behave.
Read the Tutorial you were directed to - it's Item 13. Copying and pasting text and images from the internet - the images don't appear or things go funny

You can not install an Office XP on a Windows 10 machine. Supported MS Office versions on the Win10:i will have to migrate back to old office xp

There is a workaround method:
If your PC is enough strong, then you can install and run a virtual machine with Windows XP or other older op. sys. You can install and run the Office XP on the virtual machine.
My last tip:
Try the LibreOffice and use the "Paste as - HTML format without comments". Note: pasting pictures without optimization is not a good idea - for all office suites (even the MS Office too)

Re: [Solved] Copy pictures and text from web page
LibreOffice might be a suitable option. Using Firefox 74.0.1, I copied the first three posts in this topic and pasted into AOO 4.1.7 Writer and LO 6.3.5.2 Writer. Both handled the text well, each using their own default font, but AOO only inserted placeholders for the images in the posts while LO inserted the actual images.

If I copy the two Gskyer telescopes from https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=telescope&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 the images paste into AOO Writer so it is something to do with how they are coded.
Robleyd's image is coded here as
and AOO picks up the alternate.
