[Solved] Columns Not Saving

It's a simple problem. I need two newspaper style columns on the single page of a document. An index.

I can create the two columns no problem. I see it's the only two columns of the document. I save the document and it SEEMS to save. I close the document, and when I open it again, the columns are gone. This happens each and every time.

I tried to "check for updates," but it cannot read information from the internet.

Suggestions?

Work in .odt format, OO's native format.

If you want an update (4.1.7 is latest) download it from
http://www.openoffice.org/download/
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.7 on Xubuntu 18.04.4 (mostly 64 bit version) and very infrequently on Win2K/XP

Saving as .odt worked. Thanks. I'll do the manual update later.
