Help with changing the font size back to normal

Post by rjharsh »

I was typing and must have hit a wrong key. All of my text suddenly appeared extremely large on the page and I can't get it back to the normal size. I would appreciate any help you can offer.

What does the size box in the Formatting toolbar tell you?

If it says a normal font size such as 12pt, try /View /Zoom and select 100% (to start with).

It is saying Times New Roman 12....which was what I was using. However, what I am viewing on my screen is much larger, so much so that it is even hard to type and read a sentence. I have no idea what I hit to cause this.

Thank you for trying to help me. When I click on View, I only get toolbars. When I click on that, I get a choice of standard or customize and I can not find zoom under either of those.

Then go to the % box in bottom right corner of the OpenOffice windows and change the % amount to 100%; if that improves matters, change it to a size that suits you better.

Zoom should be at the bottom of the /View menu.

I finally got it changed back but I still do not have the zoom feature under my View in the toolbar. I used shift + control + J and it got me to a page where I could add the zoom. I changed the issue there but still can't access the zoom from my toolbar and see no % at the bottom of open office window. Thanks again.

You must have been changing the toolbars, as your configuration does not seem to be normal. The % box shows if /View /Status bar is checked.

This is how the zoom slider appears if the Status bar is enabled. Click image to see larger version.

Evidently my status bar is not enabled because I do not have this option either. I guess I have really messed this up!

I suggest you rename your OpenOffice User Profile.

To rename your OpenOffice user profile.

If you are using Windows, close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter.

Open File Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer (sometimes called Windows Explorer) Address Bar and press Enter.

Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a good choice.

Start OpenOffice.

Are you perhaps normally working in full screen mode? Ctrl+Shift+J toggles that mode. In full screen mode there are no toolbars at the top, nor status bar at the bottom.

Is this the Writer component you are talking about?
Edit: I notice that you asked a very similar question in a post a few years back - Enlarged font on screen
