Text diappears/changes when setting bold/italic format

If I "Bold and Italics" text, some or all of that text disappears and is replaced by dots or other symbols.

Please upload a sample file. What you report suggests that the font used does not have full character sets in the bold and/or italic weights, or perhaps not even those weights, as happens with some specialised fonts.

Your sample file opened perfectly on my computer, which has Verdana font installed. "jumps over" was highlighted in red, in bold/italic Verdana. Your file, saved as .doc format, may not be perfectly translated from the OpenOffice internal format and when (if) opened with MS Word, errors may show. Try Save as using .odt format and see if your problem persists.

This has been reported several times with Verdana on Windows and may be a bug in AOO when using a particular version of Verdana. I was able to reproduce the problem years ago on Windows 10, but do not see the problem on Manjaro. Try changing the zoom setting for the AOO document. That may make the text visible.
