[Solved] Voice or talk to text in MS Windows 7

Post by golfpro07 »

Hi there, I was wondering if there was voice to text built into Apache Open office (version 4.1.2) or is it on the new 4.1.5 version?
If not available on either of these, is there a 3rd party free Download for such an application? I am using windows 7 version 6.1
Also I would rather not have to resort to importing docs from phone and would prefer to work directly on laptop. Thanks in advance.

No, AOO doesn''t have built in speech to text. This search might help you with 'free' options. One of the search results mentions Windows (7) Speech Recognition; whether this is compatible with AOO I don't know.

It isn't clear to me what you are asking. Can you elaborate?
Cheers

Oh, What I meant was that in case someone responded with "use talk to text on phone, then import to laptop" I instead would prefer to just work directly on laptop, although I am aware of this other option. thanks for the info! I'll check it out

Search the forum with dragon.

Use your phone to convert voice to text and paste into Writer.

Google windows voice to text

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

A friend of mine that has severely limited use of their hands (cerebal palsy) uses Dragon Natural Speaking with their installation of OpenOffice with, they have told me, about a 95% accuracy.
The biggest problems are for words that sound the same but are context sensitive. Eg: To, two, too.

Norwegian is supported.

I've used Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5 (an old one)... it may be better now but while 95% accuracy sounds good... its not very and a pain to correct.

I was amazed with the voice recognition of Siri on a friends phone though... incredible...

Microsoft's own Voice Recognition is truly awful.
