Hi!
Last weekend my wife somehow got problem with her latop so it didn`t start. Offcourse she hadn`t save the important files she had put over 150hours in. After many hours work and many program tested to rescue the files i finally found them. But when i try to open them now a ASCII modul show up and when I press ok the text tranforms in diffrent symbols. Is it possible to restore this files or should i tell her that it is only to start doing all the work again? It breaks my heart to see her cry and be mad over not saving the files. The text is in swedish. It is both odp and odt files that now is corrupted. I post one of the files here if someone want to take a look.
Corrupted files
Re: Corrupted files
Welcome to the forum.
I am sorry but the file is hopelessly corrupted, there is no usable content in it and nothing can be recovered.
See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files for instructions on how to identify and un-delete the temporary files Writer wrote while you were editing the file, and then deleted. You should be able to recover your file as it was when you last opened it or as it was when it was last saved with AutoRecovery.
You may also find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located in, but which have since been deleted.

Re: Corrupted files
I confirm John_Ha's finding that there is nothing recoverable from the file.

Re: Corrupted files
Thanks for the quick answers! I will tell her to start writing again and this time save them on other places.

You could mention that a second writing is usually better than the first!

Re: Corrupted files
You might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension which will save separate, timestamped backups each time it is used - which should be frequently

Check the [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files I mentioned above - you should be able to get back the file as it was the last time it was opened.Jaol84 wrote: ... I will tell her to start writing again and this time save them on other places.
Also, be sure to go Tools > Options > Load/Save > General ..., and tick Create a Backup copy. AOO now creates a backup copy of each file. See Help for more information.
