Save every document twice!?
I've used Open Office for awhile now but my computer is getting overloaded at this point. I use OO but I turn in my papers to prof.s who use MW so I have to save all of documents as .doc instead of .odt. So I- Save As, type desired name, select .doc in the drop down, and click save. When I do this it ALWAYS saves my document with the correct name but as a .odt file. I then have to click save as, retype desired nam, reselect .doc in drop down menu, and hit save. The second time it always saves as a .doc file. Not a huge deal but it means I have two of every paper I've ever written. As an English/Speech major I write a lot of papers. Any idea why this is happening?

Re: Save every document twice!?
No, you never have to save any document in foreign file formats.
1) You work with an odt file and want to send the finished result to some reader: File>Send>Document as PDF
2) You work with an odt file and want to send the result to a co-editor: File>Send>Document as MS Word
3) You get a new version of a doc as mail attachment: Open the attachment and save it as odt to work with. This way you keep the original doc version you've been sent and create your own working copy as odt and nothing but odt. When you are done with your working copy you proceed with 1) or 2).
This way you always work with the native file format and keep doc/pdf copies in your mail box.

Re: Save every document twice!?
Nope. It certainly does not do this on my system. I can save a new file as odt or .doc etc or can work in the proper odt format and save as .doc with no problem.archaicwords wrote:I've used Open Office for awhile now but my computer is getting overloaded at this point. Perhaps you might try resetting the user profile . It often cures weird AOO behaviour just like rebooting Windows or letting a Ford Model T rest for while.
