Hello. I did a great deal of writing on my previous computer on MS word. I wrote two novels on that thing and a lot of short stories, and so developed a very helpful and very extensive custom dictionary and autocorrect list. Basically what this did was allow me to write quickly and rather sloppily and immediately correct my common mistypings and remember my idiosyncratic vocabulary.
It became so important to me that I backed up the two associated files on the cloud--autocorrect and custom dic.
Now I'm thinking of using Open office to write my next book and as wondering if anyone had tried importing either of these files into open office.
Many thanks,
P
PS: I am really ignorant of OpenOffice and of computers in general. Not a programmer and so please don't take any knowledge for granted on my part.

Import Autocorrect and custom dic from MS Word?

Re: IMPORT AUTOCORRECT AND CUSTOM DIC FROM WORD?
I have never done it myself but this chapter on the wiki may help with the custom dictionary /wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOoAuthors_User_Manual/Migration_Guide_2006/Importing_Files
And this seems to address the autocorrect issue

Autocorrect and added words to dictionaries are stored as flat, text files in your profile at (W7) ...\users\your_name\AppData\OpenOffice\user ... As long as you can get the words out of MS Word, you can edit the files with Notepad and add the words.
This is not the normal way to add words so be sure to add them in the same was as those already there. I think they must go in in alphabetical order and the first line of the file may be the number of lines in the file.
You are on Mac - you can find the path of the profile in Preferences?? > OpenOffice > Paths
