Cannot enter new data to a table

I have imported a database which was generated with MS Access 2000. I am unable to add new records to any of the tables. I use the 'Insert New record', add the informtion but when I try to save the table , I get the message 'Error inserting the new record'. It is supposed to automatically generate the primary key, but does not appear to do so.

Would be grateful for any help with this.

It is a Primary Key related problem, if it not works, will not add new records.

is there any way I can fix this? Or is it not possible to enter new data into an MS Access database?

I found a way round it by putting all the data from the table into a spreadsheet and re-importing it into new table. Not ideal but it works.

Make a backup of both databases and define a primary key for all tables that need to be editable. Use either Base or Access for this. Primary keys have to contain unique values in one field or unique combinations across more than one field.

I can't simply insert the records. The menu Insert -> Record is locked. So, there is no empty records in the bottom of the table.

Does your table have a primary key?

Are you using the built-in hsqldb engine or connecting to an existing database?
