[Solved] Special characters in database

Post by Colin@oxford »

How can I insert "special" characters (Unicode) into my database? When, for example, designing a form, I can select these characters, but when I come to entering data into table fields, the menu item is greyed out. Does Base 2.4 not support unicode? If not, does 3.0 do so?

Your question too broad, give us some example.
Can you upload an file with this form?
What codes you can not insert?
What OS and keyboard coding?

Well, I am wanting to put in various letters with accents - both those from Western European languages like e-acute and from Eastern European ones like t-cedilla. The point is that the "Special Character" menu is greyed out, so that it does not matter what character I want to put in - none is available.
I am on Ubuntu 8.04, using British English keyboard.

This is what I did:

Open new database
create table with a text (VARCHAR) field
create form to access that table
open form to type in data: can't put in characters that I want.

Right-click the input box and choose "Special Character... Ctrl+Shift+S"

Ah! thanks. Why is the Insert->Special Character menu greyed out then?

Form(s) are attached to a Writer document. The main menu refers to the document. For data input the Writer document is loaded read-only as indicated in the window title. This prevents that the user changes the model of the form as you can do in edit mode. In edit mode you can edit the document like any other Writer document and you can drag around the attached form controls. Nevertheless, while working in edit mode you can switch the forms from design mode to input mode for testing.
