Using same report for updated database

Post by knight2 »

I created a test Database in Access. I then converted it to a database that Open Office base can read. (odb). I then successfully created a report. I used the wizards.
Now I want to use an updated Access database file, convert it to the ODB form and Then run the same query and report. I only see how to rebuild the query and report.

[Tutorial] MS Access and OOo Base
I have no idea how you "converted" the database. Does the status bar look like this?

If not, which type of connection is indicated in the status bar.

I want to use an updated Access database file
Anytime changes have been made to the Access file
On the main Base window select Tables
then from the menu select View>Refresh Tables.
What has changed? Just the data, or have you modified the table fields/columns?
If only the data has changed then your queries and reports should work without modification.
If the table structure has changed, then you will probably need to Edit of replace the queries and reports.

Your Base document is linked to (not converted from) the JET datwabase which is embedded in the Access document which is fine.
The last step of the report wizard offers a choice to create
a) a static report
b) a dynamic report
You want "dynamic" which is preselected by default. If you choose "static", your report shows a snapshot of current data.

Another reason I can think of:: if you have the database loaded in MS Access while testing your Base report, it may be that Base can not see the latest data because they are not yet stored to the database. Close MS Access and try again.
