[Solved] Grey box around cursor

Post by multipleinterestfan »

For whatever reason all of a sudden in one of my documents the cursor has a grey box around it and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. I can type just fine for the most part, but whenever I italicize something I can't use commas, periods or question marks since I can't unitalicize before using them because the whole word is no longer italicized. I also have to tell the document I don't want the first word in a new line to be italicized since whenever I hit the return button to start a new line the document automatically activates the italicize button. I am using OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10

What happens to the cursor if you press the Insert key?

that fixed it, I honestly don't know how the problem came to be in the first place, or if I somehow unknowingly pressed that key, but it worked after I typed random letters and then pressed delete
