Can We Hope?

Post by Echoscope »

Greetings!

I got an important OpenOffice file corrupted a couple weeks ago. I'm still finding it hard to
accept that it can't be recovered. I'm wondering whether the OpenOffice team would try to
get a fix for the ASCII Filter Options issue in the coming months/years.

Regards!

Do you have some backup version of the document?

Tips for the future working:
- Always create more than one backup copy of your important documents
- Never work on a removable media directly
- Always use the internatioanl standard ODF file formats

Can you upload the problematic document here?

OP’s specific problem has been discussed in another topic.

There is nothing AOO can do about a file that is totally corrupted like this by factors outside of AOO.

I agree with robleyd - many of the factors causing file loss are outside of OO's control. There is no substitute for a rigorous backup policy on part of the User.

To not have a backup and lose a file like I did is an act of extreme stupidity. I admit that. I'm the only
person responsible. That said, the file that I lost is still on my computer. It's just that I can't open it. Maybe at
some stage the OpenOffice team would want to come up with a software solution to help idiots like me.

Zizi64, I'm attaching the corrupted file with this message.

Regards!

Your file, as you were told early in your other thread, is damaged beyond repair. We knew that when you mentioned the ASCII filter option and ###. I have checked - knowing I was wasting my time - your uploaded file, and there is no usable information in it.

Your only possibility of recovering information is the methods in the Tutorial to which you were pointed.
