[Solved] Stuck on error on odt file saving

Post by Superflymarco »

I am new but I am struggling to save my book odt file and I keep getting the error of "write error. Error in writing sub-document context.xml." and no matter what I do I can't seem to get passed this and save my work .....

It has probably been covered on numerous posts already but I am clueless as to what all the jargon means etc sorry

Hoping someone can save me and help please and thanks

Is there sufficient free space on your hard drive? You need much more than you think. Have you permissions to Save in the chosen location Try navigating to your desktop and Saving there - you should always have rights to save on your desktop

Try using /File /Save As to save in MS word 97/2000/XP format; that should preserve much of the file format. Have yu added an illustration or a table recently (just before error arose)? If so, try deleting that and Saving as .odt.

Hi,

Yes lots of free space on my MacBook as recently upgraded to 1tb hard drive ....

I’ve been saving always to desktop but now it won’t work :( .... Tried saving in other areas also but same error.

I’ve only recently added some text pages to my odt and even when I’ve deleted them and gone to save still same error :(

I’m stumped

Open a new blank Writer file. In the old file, Select all, and Copy. Switch to the new blank file, click cursor there and Paste. Now try Saving from the new file - use a different name to the old file.

I'm going offline now.

Hi

Tried this and was looking good until it done exact same error :(

I am away to work for the day but I think this is a losing battle this one as no matter what I do it won't work ....

Any way to get someone to check the file for me perhaps ?

Thanks

Certainly if you have managed to Save the file (best format is .odt); you can upload it to the forum if less than 128KB, or put it on a file-sharing site and post the URL to this thread.

For what it's worth, Saxparse errors in opening a file are usually easily repaired; there may be some slight loss of formatting or data, but usually nothing catastrophic. Errors Saving a file are more serious and difficult.

See Issue 117896 - Cannot Save Document: Error in writing sub-document content.xml. I cannot reproduce the error with either of the files in the bug report.

Strange problems are sometimes fixed by resetting the profile - see Resetting the user profile.

Without seeing the actual file all we can do is guess.

Try creating a new .odt file.

1. File > New > Text document
2. Insert > File. Now navigate to the problem file and insert it.
3. Save the new file as a .odt file.

Hi folks,

Ok so I done everything you suggested and created a new file etc etc etc

I managed to finally (on third attempt) get to edit it and save it !!!

I am not sure what I done, how I done it or which bit of your advice cracked it !!!

However for now (touch wood, cross fingers and whatever else) it has worked :)

Thanks you beautiful people x

Your file was somehow corrupted and creating the new file removed the corruption.

The timed/dated backup extension may be of use to you. You can download it from
viewtopic.php?p=406045#p405921

Note that you must invoke it separately using its button; it does not replace the standard save mechanism.
