Text Document opens with hashtags

A document I created sometime ago and saved is now opening with hashtags as the words. I have looked though the options in Open Office, but I don't see any options that will help me to change it to its original form. It had been a while maybe a few months since I last opened it and everything was okay, but now there aren't any words on the document. I even moved to Microsoft Word and it looks the same.
