[Solved] AOO Quit Working, no soffice process, 2 reinstalls

The title pretty much covers it. I have used OO on this machine with this OS for 3 years and no problems. Yesterday I tried to open a powerpoint, like I do every day, and nothing happened. I tried older files that had opened successfully before, but again nothing happened. There were no changes made to anything, and I have no idea what prompted this.

Next I Googled "open office stopped working," "openoffice won't open," and similar keywords. The results all say to close soffice process with task manager, but no soffice process is there to stop.

Then I uninstalled and reinstalled OO, but again no improvement.

I can't open a spreadsheet, powerpoint, or text document now, and I don't know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried to reset your OpenOffice user profile?

You're using an evolving operating system. It's not the same now as it was 3 years ago. Windows Defender now includes a component meant to block ransomware. The default settings for that component blocks some programs (including Apache OpenOffice) from running. That's one possible cause for the problem. Do a forum search using the terms windows defender ransomware for more information about how to fix that problem.

A Windows update seems to have corrected the problem. Thank you, everyone who responded.
