[Solved] ERR:510 code when recovering file

Postby jhenry » Wed Mar 14, 2018 5:51 pm

I am trying to recover an accidentally deleted spreadsheet file which I located on my hard drive using the Recuva software. The Recuva program shows that the file should be in excellent condition. However, when I try to load it back into Open Office I get the ERR:510 message. Is there something I can do to make the file useable again? Any help is appreciated as this is an important file used in my business. Thanks!

Does every cell show the Err 510 code or just some? Can you upload the file or a small piece of it? To upload a file, click Post Reply and look for the Upload Attachment tab just below the box where you type a response.

Error 510 is an error in the code "Missing variable"; the example offered in the help file is of two operators together, like "=1+*2"

this is an important file used in my business.

I have attached a screen capture showing what I am seeing when the file is opened. I hope this helps...

I am not an expert on Calc, but the screenshot you posted suggests to me that an area, or perhaps all, of the file image from Recuva has been overwritten by some other program, no matter what Recuva says.

I think you should, as soon as possible, look at the areas indicated in this tutorial
[Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files

While it refers to Writer files, I think that Calc uses the same areas. Where the tutorial says .doc or .odt, substitute .xls or .ods.

I did find a fix in the tutorial! I was able to locate the backup file following the directions given. Thank you so much! :bravo:

Now I just need to find my unfiled tax returns that were deleted in the same disk cleanup process!

You should make manual backups regularly.

I had an external hard drive set to make regular backups but it apparently stopped working sometime last year! I still can't access the drive.
