[Solved] Spell check all words wrong

Postby howellpayne » Sun Mar 04, 2018 9:54 pm

When I upgraded to 4.1.5 my Spell Check underlined in red almost everything. What is the easy fix mentioned or is it different for the current version? I'm over 80 and need something simple. I'm using Windows 10. Thanks, Hal

Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder (user.old is good to use). Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

Be aware that you have now lost any customisation you did, ant saved macros, saved words, autocorrects etc.

If you want them back you need to copy everything back from the old profile with the exception of the ...\config folder.

A thought.

I think hanya's macro in Spell checker "red wriggly lines" - beta test fix for AOO is the best way to solve spell check problems not least because hanya is a developer, and because it keeps the user customisation.

We know the corruption is in ...\config. When AOO rebuilds the profile it copies the default profile stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\presets\. So a quick way to fix spellcheck would be to copy C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\presets\config and paste it to C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\config overwriting the corrupted \config. That replaces the corrupted ...\config folder without deleting all the user customisation.

I wonder if it would work is a user had downloaded other dictionaries - in other words - does installing a dictionary make any changes inside ...\config?
